How it works: Nepal uses progressive tax brackets. Each slice of your taxable income (gross salary minus eligible deductions) is taxed at the rate for that bracket. Slabs are set by the Finance Act and updated each fiscal year. This tool follows the slabs as published by Nepal IRD. For complex cases (multiple income sources, remote area allowances, foreign income), consult a chartered accountant.

Frequently Asked

What's the 1% SST on the first bracket?
It's the Social Security Tax — a 1% levy on the first slab of income (up to Rs 5,00,000 for individuals, Rs 6,00,000 for couples). If you're already a registered SSF (Social Security Fund) member contributing 11%+11% with your employer, you're exempt from this 1% SST. Toggle the 'SSF member' checkbox to reflect that.
Individual vs Couple — which should I pick?
Pick 'Couple' only if you're married AND you and your spouse have filed for joint assessment with the IRD. The couple brackets are slightly more generous at the lower end (1% applies up to Rs 6,00,000 instead of Rs 5,00,000), but for most working couples it makes no difference at higher incomes since the upper slabs are identical.
What deductions can I claim?
The main retirement deductions are SSF (Social Security Fund), EPF (Employees Provident Fund), and CIT (Citizen Investment Trust). Combined, these are capped at Rs 5,00,000/year or 1/3 of your gross salary, whichever is lower. You can also claim up to Rs 40,000 for life insurance premiums and Rs 20,000 for health insurance premiums.
What's the female rebate?
An unmarried female taxpayer earning only from employment gets a 10% rebate on their final tax. This applies to unmarried women filing as 'Individual' — not to married women filing as 'Couple'.
Is this calculator official?
No. It follows the slabs published in the Finance Act and IRD circulars, but it's a third-party tool for estimation. For final filing, use IRD's official Taxpayer Portal at ird.gov.np, or consult a chartered accountant for edge cases like multiple income sources, foreign income, or remote-area allowances.
Does monthly tax change with each pay?
The shown monthly tax is annual tax ÷ 12. In practice, your employer's TDS deduction may vary month-to-month based on year-to-date earnings and any bonuses. The annual total should match what's shown here if your gross stays constant.
