Birthdates on Nepali documents (citizenship, passport, school records) usually use BS. Why is my Nepali age different from my English age?
They're not actually different — they're the same age measured against different calendars. If you were born in 2050 BS (1993 AD) and today is 2082 BS (2026 AD), you're 32 in both calendars. The difference appears if you confuse 'years since birth' with 'current calendar year', which is a different number.
What's the conversion offset?
BS is roughly AD + 56 years 8 months. The Bikram Sambat new year (1 Baisakh) starts in mid-April of the Gregorian year. So most of BS 2082 maps to most of AD 2025, with the last few months overlapping AD 2026.
Can I use this to calculate work anniversaries, joining dates, etc.?
